I was sure the answer to the question would be 100,000 dollars. But as you can see I was wrong.

Kinja'd!!!

To be fair this includes some very silly things like a 2 thousand dollar Ram Telematics subscription, and a thousand dollar in bed tire carrier, and 1300 dollars in graphics, and a 1,500 dollar ref accent interior package. And a 1200 dollar carbon fiber package that gets you a flat bottom steering wheel lol.

Anyone else remember when pickup trucks were reasonably priced and were actually for, you know....work?

Rather than fancy showpieces like this RAM that 95% of buyers will just use to buy groceries at the local Food-U-Mart?

Don’t get me wrong, RAM is my favorite truck brand, but there are one or two similar Ford Raptors running around town here that I only ever see in pristine shape picking the kids up for school, or parked in an office parking lot...

I guess if you have the money...

Yep, it’s ridiculous...an d this will likely just be used for the daily commute, or for picking Jimmy and Janice up from school...

Jimmy and Janice will fit in the 911, whoever is getting better grades gets to ride up front.

I can’t wait for the H U M M E R electric truck. I actually like the idea of a big, tough, fast  offroad truck, but the fuel consumption is just too much. Going on outdoor adventures with ~11 mpg worth of carbon emissions is a hypocrisy that I’m not down to promote.

Yeah. Same here. When I think about buying a TRX I know I’d have a struggle between wanting to trash it the way it’s ment to be, and trying to keep its re-sale value up.

And really even if I was in the new truck market I’d much rather spend 50-60k on a 3500 Cummins than 80+ on a TRX. And just image what it’ll be with dealer market ups.

I kind of hate them for not having a regular cab of the new design, but at least you can still buy a base model, long bed, reg cab, v8, 4x4.

I bought my new Tacoma in February and purchased a home in April. I’ll go out on a limb and say that it has been worth its weight in gold when considering we used it to move, yard work, and various chores around the house. More recently with the leaves falling I’ve used it to haul leaves and stuff multiple times.

Now, on the opposite end of the spectrum, I have a friend who has a Tacoma that he babies and literally has zero need for it. It sits in his garage most of the time and he probably won’t even drive it during the winter. Like my father used to say, “ different strokes for different folks”.

I for one am happy that both  cheap work trucks, and super expensive toy trucks exist. It is a shame to see the really expensive ones used to flaunt wealth instead of being used as intended though. On the inverse it’s fun to see an absolute base truck kept in good, but used, shape.

A Tradesman,  regular cab, 4x4, with a low volume color ($495), and Snow Chief Group ($545)

This is the normal Cummins not the HO with the beefier trans and 1,000ft/lbs. only a mere 850ft/lbs.

Kinja'd!!!

Also 2500 trucks do not make sense to me. A 1500 is smaller so it’s a totally different category. But a 2500 is just a less beefy 3500. And a 3500 is only about a grand more expensive than a 2500. When you’re already spending 40-70 grand why would you not just spend one more to get a much more capable truck? And I’m sure you’d recoup that difference on resale.

I don’t recall but typically it’s 495 here in northern Wisconsin. For Ford and Chrysler any way.

I figured you’d have to be looking in this area (reg cab, low trim). I forgot they allow you a cheaper Cummins with less power. Now the real question is how many of those are available or how long does it take before they can deliver a special build?

I know when I worked at the dealership we told people 30-90 days for custom builds. A few people did it for wranglers. Usually too a month an a half I think. I think it partly depends on how custom you’re getting. I’m sure having a low volume color adds to the time but I’d totally do it if I were buying a new Ram

Depends what you are planning to do with the truck. I haven’t driven the latest generation RAM but with the previous there is a big difference in unloaded ride quality between a 2500 and 3500.  A 3500 ride is damn near unbearable without 1,000 lbs. of stuff in the bed or a trailer hooked up unless you fit it with air springs on the back.  An empty 2500 isn’t great but it is tolerable at least.

They exist, but most non-fleet consumers   seem to think they need the biggest V8, the full leather package, Bose stereo, and up-rated off-road kit, so the price skyrockets.

Meanwhile, my dad’s 1985 Toyota 4x4 rolled off the lot with a 97HP carbureted motor, manual everything, vinyl seats, and no stereo . It’s probably seen & done more “truck” work hauling stuff and going down trails than many of these nice V8 trucks I see around town...
